Some days I just get up in the morning with no agenda for the day, not a real concrete set plan and I’m happy to go with the flow. To an extent obviously because there are normal things to be done, like getting some work done. But mostly I take it as it comes and I think that is how to live in the moment.
I hear some of you saying “ah it’s alright for her, she doesn’t have to go to work”, well yes you may be right about that. I opted to get out of the “rat race” and take a risk, a big risk to be totally in charge of my life. Not what my accountant recommended and definitely not what most would be able to do. And because I live like this I have to live in the moment, so I won’t panic about not doing a traditional 9 – 5 job.
It helps that I practice mindfulness and that my training is helping me live much more in the moment, without allowing those fearful thoughts control my life.
So this morning I got up and decided to go for a walk to just sit at the local cafe for breakfast, it’s also because I couldn’t be bothered to make my own breakfast.
It’s a lovely morning here in London. Us Londoners know to take advantage of good weather when we have it because it might be a while before we see the sun again. If you work from home like I do you know you need to make sure you get out and about otherwise you end up in front of the computer all day.
After breakfast I walked to the local deli, picked up things for lunch and on my way home stopped at the new local health store.
Here are 3 tips to help you live in the moment:
- Stop trying to control everything in every minute. Make no judgments, have no preconceptions and just let your day unfold.
- Plans almost never work out the way you intend, so why waste your time and energy making them in the first place? Not to say that you should never plan, just that you should have few expectations and be willing to adapt as your day unfolds.
- Don’t underestimate the power of fresh air! Even in the cold months in London, even in the rain, getting out is so healthy. I don’t understand why people have a fear of rain, it’s just water right?
Today I discovered a lovely new health store, just a few minutes walk from home. Spoke to Eugene the owner, such a knowledgeable young man. Even got myself a detox smoothie, didn’t plan that today!
When people ask me what Mindfulness is, I worry about the confusion. It is simple really, just letting go of control, live in the moment and relax. Simple isn’t it? Give it a go see what happens.
