Since my separation and subsequent divorce every aspect of my life has changed, sometimes I can’t believe how things have changed and how I’ve changed.
I made some changes to my lifestyle, the first and foremost was to stop smoking. At the initial stages of my separation smoking became the tool that I thought was holding me together. Obviously that was not the case, it’s all in the mind, at that time it was what I thought I needed.
I stopped smoking a couple of months after my separation. At the initial stages of my separation I turned to heavy smoking, it became my crutch and I couldn’t think of going a day without a cigarette. But then I started to focus more on myself. I also wanted to prove to myself that I was strong enough to cope with anything and able to stand on my own two feet. So I quit smoking and it was much easier than I had imagined.
My Healthy Lifestyle:
I have been focusing on improving my healthy lifestyle too. Cutting out things, doing more exercise and generally being much more conscious of my eating habits. I didn’t want it to be about weight loss because that is not what I am interested in but my health is, if losing weight is a by product of getting healthy then that’s good too.
Today 23rd September 2015, I made a commitment to really change my eating and lifestyle to see if I can recover damage done from the years of self neglect, smoking and generally not being good to myself.
I am working with a personal trainer because I need the motivation. I tried the gym and got really bored of it.
I thought I would share what I have decided to do here, I’m hoping this will hold me to account. You know once you’ve made it public it’s a bit more difficult to change your mind.
I cut out junk and processed food a long time ago, so that won’t be a problem, the following might be though –
- Exercising every day – Walking, running and whatever movement I can get in.
- Cutting out all carbs, dairy and meat.
- Main meal at lunch.
- Eating fresh in season as much as possible.
- Fruit to minimum.
- Only eating between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.
- Having one evening off a week within reason obviously.
I have been eating mindfully for a while, so when I eat I just eat. No distractions, just sitting eating. Unless of course I am out and then I am distracted in conversation.
So let’s see how this goes. Another crazy challenge but all in the name of a healthy lifestyle.
